STUDENTS LEARN 3D DESIGN AND 3D PRINTING SKILLS
Students between the ages of 12-18 from the Elementary School of Dana and Emil Zátopek in Třinec, Czech Republic are learning design skills by creating 3D models of a steel factory in Ostrava.
The project is part of the school’s computer graphics program and the group consists of 15 students, past graduates, and an IT instructor. The students are using SketchUp software and have uploaded their models to 3D Warehouse. Their next step is to remodel them in Cinema 4D and Quine Engine.

The students also had the opportunity to workshop with Josef Prusa, who created the Prusa Mendel 3D Printer. Prusa showed the children how 3D printing works and how to prepare their models for 3D printing, including converting, correcting, and slicing their models.
This project allows students to build up their 3D modeling and design skills as well as providing samples for their portfolio. The students are eager to try 3D printing and will likely shape the future of additive manufacturing.
